About the Event

This evening's delightful presentation reveals the exceptional work of 4 women across 200 years who, with savvy and spirit, invented an elixir that became synonymous with celebration. In medieval times the Champagne Region had been famous for its textile fairs that drew all of Europe together, from England to Poland, Belgium to Como.  The fairs were ended by the deep gloom that settled on Europe and lasted until the French Revolution.  That’s when our unlikely heroins brought a renaissance to the Champagne Region, crowning it with sparkling new significance. The saga begins in 1777 with Veuve Barb-Nicole Clicquot.  It ends in 1977 with the death of Veuve Lilly Bollinger, famous for the bubbly beloved by Britain known as “Bolly.”

The evening's presentation will be provided by the versatile, multilingual historical researcher and award winning author JACQUELINE WIDMAR STEWART.
